Are you a morning or evening lunchbox packer?
For me it is most definitely EVENING! Mornings in our home seem to rushed! Even though the kids are up around 6:30am and we don’t leave home until after 8am - I honestly just don’t know where the time goes each morning!
In the evening I have more time to consider what I pack. As you all know, each day I include in the lunchbox something from each of the 5 food groups (fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, dairy and protein). Protein will most often be leftover from dinner then I just top up with what I have in the fridge and cupboard to make up the rest of the food groups.
I have a great little lunchbox cheat sheet with heaps of examples from each of the food groups. If you haven’t got a copy yet, you can get it here. I have mine up on the fridge and often go through it with the kids to get a feel for what they might like and encourage them to try something new. I’m also planning to do a live in the next few weeks to take everyone through it – so stay tuned.
If you’ve never considered packing the lunchbox in the evening and your mornings are super rushed like mine, I encourage you to give it a go – it might be just what you need! And if you’re worried about the food going old overnight just keep the packed lunchbox in the fridge (out of the cooler bag). Keep popcorn out until the morning and avoid cheese touching crackers and tomato touching bread as these do go soggy. Everything else last perfectly!
